Mozart Zaide, Aldeburgh Festival, 26th June 2004

"I'm afraid the Aldeburgh Festival's semi-staged concert performance of Mozart's unfinished singspiel Zaide fell rather flat. On the plus side, the Britten-Pears Orchestra, conducted by Paul McCreesh, played stylishly, with full string sound and especially good natural horns and oboe. Though the orchestra could not redeem much of what the singers on the Britten- Pears Young Artist Programme had to offer - which was cautious, poorly projected and, well, bland - the second act perked up no end, with an interesting and characterful Sultan Soliman from Robin Tritschler and a strong and free Osmin from Paul Carey Jones."

Peter Reed, The Sunday Telegraph, 4th July 2004
