
11th June - Paul Carey Jones is delighted that he will be singing the role of Mohammed in the forthcoming production of Keith Burstein's opera Manifest Destiny at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh throughout August as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Manifest Destiny had its premiere in London in June 2004, at a benefit performance for the Guantanamo Human Rights Commission founded by Corin and Vanessa Redgrave. The opera, to a libretto by the Welsh playwright Dic Edwards, is set around events in the recent past in the Middle East and Guantanamo Bay. The production, directed by Dave Wybrow and with a cast also featuring Bernadette Lord, Peter Furlong and Peter Willcock, will run from August 6th - 29th, with performances most days at 4pm, finshing at around 5.30pm.
Before that, Paul appears with soprano Claire Booth and mezzo Ann Taylor in Hull on June 22nd at a charity evening for Opera North. The company are currently undergoing a major programme of refurbishments at their home, the Grand Theatre in Leeds, and proceeds from the evening's entertainment will go towards the fundraising efforts.
